BOMA Canada Launches Innovative Program Under Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative
Toronto, ON – September 4, 2024 – BOMA Canada is proud to announce the launch of an innovative new program, supported by Natural Resources Canada under its Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI). This cutting-edge initiative is designed to elevate awareness and bolster capacity for advancing deep energy retrofit projects within the commercial real estate sector. The goal is to enhance building performance while facilitating the transition to low-carbon operations.
“Our team is thrilled about this new program. From Class A to AAA buildings, the commercial real estate industry has fully embraced sustainability, as seen through certification programs like BOMA BEST. Now, with advancements in building technologies and the launch of this program, it’s the perfect opportunity for mid-tier buildings to invest in deep retrofits. While there will be challenges ahead, it’s clear that our industry is ready to rise to the occasion.” Benjamin Shinewald CEO and President BOMA Canada.
The program offers a comprehensive framework guiding participants through the deep retrofit process. It emphasizes the critical need for improving building efficiency, helping participants identify opportunities for retrofits and implement strategic measures aimed at reducing energy consumption and emissions.
“Energy efficiency means cost savings for Canadians. At a time when Canadians are facing challenges with affordability and climate change, we are delivering on the Green Buildings Strategy by supporting cost-saving retrofit projects like BOMA Canada’s new deep retrofit program for commercial buildings. By implementing the Green Buildings Strategy, we will save Canadians money, create jobs, and seize the opportunities of a modern, clean economy.”
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Government of Canada
