What’s BOMA Up to

Cyber Security in Building Operations

In response to industry demand, BOMA Canada is pleased to be leading a working group bringing together building operations, security, IT and others to prepare our members to meet the threats posed by cyber risks in building operations.  Work is progressing under the leadership of Quadreal’s Cheryl Gray and our own Benjamin Shinewald – look for our forthcoming Guide at BOMEX 2018 in Calgary, October 1-3.  Thanks to MNP LLP for providing amazing cyber security content and to Marsh Canada Limited for providing incredible insight into cyber insurance – their contributions are amazing.  And thanks to our amazing volunteers from QuadReal Property Group, Oxford Properties Group, Colliers International, First Capital Realty Inc., CAPREIT, Triovest, MaRS Discovery District, Cushman & Wakefield, Canderel Group, Bentall Kennedy and others, including our editor and facilitator Naveli Thomas.

Resilience

Canadians are no strangers to the effects of extreme weather, but as recent events in places like St. John, Toronto and Calgary have shown, extreme weather is beginning to play a critical role in building operations.   Owners and managers are increasingly grappling with how to address the effects of things like extreme wind, flooding and even earthquakes.  Our amazing volunteers from Ivanhoé Cambridge, Colliers International Canada, Triovest, First Capital Realty, Inc. QuadReal Property Group, Bentall Kennedy, Brookfield Property Partners and others are joining our BOMA Canada team, with our friends at GRESB and BOMA Toronto providing excellent input and leadership too.  Look for our forthcoming Resilience Guide coming out for BOMEX 2018 in Calgary on October 1-3 – and we will be providing other exciting resilience tools and content early in 2019 as well!
