BOMA Canada Granted New .eco Domain
This past fall, a domain granting program was launched for .eco, a new URL with an environmental conscience. It was the first of its kind, and it offered nonprofits with an environmental mission an early shot at any .eco domain. NGOs and governments could apply for common keywords or phrases that aligned with their issue area or an upcoming campaign.
The premise was as simple as it was complex. Each .eco applicant had to have 3 pillars – environmental action, trust and transparency. Each new .eco domain registration will come with a .eco profile and .eco trust mark. Combined, the .eco extension, .eco profile and .eco trust mark will embody the core of the .eco system.
It is an exciting idea, one we are delighted to be involved with. To apply we were asked to describe in 150 words how we would use the domain to best benefit the earth. This is what we wrote:
At BOMA BEST, Canada’s leading sustainable building platform for existing buildings, we see ourselves first as students, always looking for ways to improve, and secondly as educators, sharing a collective knowledge of sustainability. We feel that we are at the start of our journey, having worked primarily in Canada and recently expanding into South Korea, China, and the United States.
From our perspective, the next logical step is to create an online hub for sharing knowledge, engaging building owners and managers, and for like-minded individuals to share. An internationally recognized domain such as .eco would be the perfect tool.
We are proud to announce that BOMA Canada has been granted the www.sustainablebuildings.eco domain.
We will keep you posted on our launch date.
